Shandong University of Technology (SDUT) was founded in June 1956 as the Shandong Institute of Technology. Over the decades the institute expanded in size and scope. In 1990 it began to develop into a broader polytechnic institution. In 2001 it merged with several colleges and adopted its current name, SDUT. Since then the university has grown substantially: it now hosts tens of thousands of students across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, operates many academic schools, and supports wide-ranging research and teaching.  Over time SDUT has become a key institution in Shandong Province for engineering and applied sciences, while also offering programs in economics, management, arts, law, and other fields — building a broad and balanced academic portfolio.

Students choose SDUT because it offers strong engineering and technology education combined with a variety of other academic programs and modern campus infrastructure. The university provides practical training, research opportunities, and industry‑linked programs. It offers both Chinese‑taught and English‑taught courses — giving flexibility for international students. SDUT also has housing, student services, and scholarship options for foreign students. The broad range of disciplines — from engineering, science, and technology to management, humanities and arts — allows many students to find a program that matches their interests and goals.
