Basic Entry Requirements For Studying In China

Entry requirements differ between universities and provinces, but most institutions consider the following.

Universities typically review school leaving results for undergraduate entry, such as HSC, A levels or equivalent, and university transcripts and degree certificates for postgraduate entry. For medicine, engineering and related programmes, strong performance in science subjects is often important. Your BHE UNI consultant will compare your results with realistic university options rather than only the most competitive institutions.

For English taught programmes, universities usually require evidence of English language ability through a recognised test or previous English medium study. For Chinese medium programmes, you normally need to achieve a certain level in Mandarin, often demonstrated by a recognised language test.

BHE UNI helps you understand which language requirements apply to your chosen course and plan whether to take a language test or begin with a language or foundation programme.

Some programmes, especially in medicine, have age limits or health requirements. We explain typical age ranges accepted for your target level and advise you on health checks and documentation that may be requested.

You will need to show that you can pay tuition fees and cover living costs. Your consultant will give you a realistic picture of expected tuition and living costs in different cities and explain the kind of financial evidence commonly required by universities and visa authorities.

Working While You Study In China

Rules about work for international students in China are more limited and can be stricter than in some other destinations. Work may only be allowed with explicit permission from the university and local authorities, and opportunities may be more restricted during term time.
