Course Overview

There is currently a high demand for well-trained and multi-skilled graduates in the dynamic health and social care sector. This programme will provide you with the underlying concepts of Health and Social Care and will prepare you for a rewarding career in this sector.

If you are interested in a career in health and social care, this course offers you the chance to develop your academic, personal and professional potential. The programme is designed to meet employer demand for higher level qualified practitioners; you will gain an understanding of the concept of health and social care in a contemporary society, helping you to progress to employment within the health and social care sector. You will be given the opportunity to study aspects of health and social care in a variety of contexts, providing insight into the human experience of health in society and of physical and mental well-being and illness.

Aims

This programme is both academic and vocational. You will develop academic skills and knowledge by studying a range of theories, viewpoints and professional perspectives which encourage depth of thinking. Vocationally, you will be able to gain experience working in a professional environment through optional work placement modules. There are lots of rewarding career opportunities in this sector, which involve helping people to achieve a better standard of life.

Course Delivery

The programme will be delivered at London School of Commerce, London an associate college of New College Durham. The campus is centrally located and all the prime attractions in London are in close proximity to the campus. Campus buildings are located in the London Bridge area, within easy reach of British Rail and Underground stations.

General Eligibility

Requirements

  1. A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade 4/C or above, including maths and English Language or appropriate Key Skills/Functional Skills at Level 2.

  2. A minimum of 64 UCAS Credits/or GNVQ/NVQ/ BTEC Diploma/ Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care/ A-Levels at Level 3.

  3. Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in-line with College policy.

  4. Two supportive references.

  5. Non-standard entry applications will be considered on the basis of relevant work experience and attainment of skills, which demonstrate an ability to study at this level concordant with QAA UK Quality Code Admissions, Recruitment and Widening Access.

  6. If you hold a UCAS tariff of 48 points, you will be offered an interview and considered on an individual basis, if you have substantial specific industry experience.
