Hebei Academy of Fine Arts (HAFA) is a full‑time undergraduate art academy approved by China’s Ministry of Education. It focuses on fine arts and design disciplines, offering many majors such as painting, animation, sculpture, environmental design, fashion design, media arts, and more. HAFA combines traditional Chinese arts with contemporary design and creative media. Its campus blends classical Chinese architectural elements (in the “north campus”) with European‑style “castle-like” buildings (in the “south campus”), making it a visually striking environment for art students.

HAFA attracts students from across China’s provinces and also welcomes international students. The academy pursues applied and creative arts education, supports research and creation via studios, labs, and specialized institutes, and emphasizes both academic art skills and practical design and media output.  For students interested in fine arts, design, animation, fashion, or media, HAFA offers a broad, art‑oriented, and internationally open educational environment.

English Language Requirements

HAFA’s programs are primarily in Chinese; international applicants typically start with a “Chinese & Art” preparatory course before entering degree programs.  Applicants may need to pass China’s national Chinese proficiency exam (HSK), as specified for their intake. For exact level and requirements, contact HAFA’s International Education Office.

Scholarship Policy

HAFA provides several scholarship and fee‑reduction options for international students:

  • Tuition reduction: e.g., 20% off in the first year; further discounts (30–60%) depending on Chinese language (HSK) level (HSK3 → 30%, up to HSK6 → 60%) for some scholarships.

  • Performance‑based tuition reduction: from second year onwards, tuition can be reduced 30–50% depending on academic performance (course passing, GPA, etc.)

  • Additional awards: small cash prizes (e.g. RMB 500) for full attendance or merit; extra scholarships for winning national or international art/design competitions (500 to 10,000 RMB) for award‑winning students.

  • Possibility to apply for state‑level or provincial scholarships (depending on nationality and eligibility), per current government scholarship policies.

Application requires filling HAFA’s international student application form, passport copy, academic records/transcripts, applications for scholarship (if relevant), possibly language certificates (HSK), and other materials as required.

Fees & Funding

  • Regular bachelor’s tuition: around RMB 30,000 per year for most majors.

  • Some specialized or joint‑program majors (e.g., cooperation with foreign institutions) may have higher tuition.

  • On‑campus accommodation for international students (double or shared room) is modest: example apartment fee for international students is listed as low (e.g., about RMB 3,000 per semester for 2‑person apartment in some cases) in HAFA’s admission brochure.

  • With scholarship, tuition can be significantly reduced; coupled with affordable housing and moderate living costs, HAFA becomes a comparatively low‑cost art education option in China.

Hebei Academy of Fine Arts was established in 2002. In 2015 the academy was granted the legal right to award bachelor’s degrees. In 2016 it was approved as a master’s‑degree granting project unit. Over the years, HAFA has expanded its campus, facilities and academic offerings. The campus includes a large art museum, specialized studios and research institutes — offices for restoration, sculpture, design, and other creative work. The academy attracts students from many Chinese provinces and has developed programs aimed at both traditional fine arts and contemporary media, design, and creative industries.

Students choose HAFA because it offers a comprehensive art education combining traditional fine arts, contemporary design, animation, media arts, and creative studies. The campus provides modern facilities, studios, art museum collections, and a variety of majors — giving students a wide choice depending on their interests. The presence of well-equipped workshops, research centers (for restoration, sculpture, design), and creative labs supports both practical skills and creative development. HAFA also promotes international exchange and cooperation, making it accessible for foreign students seeking art education in China.  Support in admissions, accommodation, and scholarship options helps many students manage costs and focus on their studies.

Scholarships, Bursaries, and Funding

HAFA offers scholarship and tuition‑reduction schemes for eligible students. For example, reductions in tuition are available depending on the student’s performance and language level (for international students learning Chinese). Students who perform well academically or win in national/international art competitions may receive awards or additional subsidies.

Student Accommodation

On‑campus dormitories are available for students. For international students, shared or double rooms are offered; accommodation fees are modest compared with many international standards. Dorms are part of a campus with a museum, studios, libraries — giving students access to creative spaces and community life.

Off-Campus Student Accommodations

Students may also choose to live off campus, in nearby housing around the city area. This option may offer more independence and flexibility for those who prefer private housing or a different living environment than dorms. Information on specific off‑campus housing varies, so students should check local listings or contact HAFA’s International Education Office for guidance.
