FdA Ophthalmic Dispensing

This Foundation Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to work as an ophthalmic dispenser. You will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the eye, the principles of ophthalmology, and the various types of eye tests and examinations. In addition, you will gain practical experience in the preparation and dispensing of ophthalmic medicines and devices. This course is delivered at our Canterbury campus.

Additional Information

This Foundation Degree is a two-year program that includes both theoretical and practical components. You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a dedicated ophthalmic dispensing lab, where you can practice your skills under the supervision of experienced professionals. Upon completion of this course, you will be eligible to register with the General Optical Council (GOC) as an ophthalmic dispenser.

This course is specifically designed for people already employed as trainee Dispensing Opticians.

This Ophthalmic Dispensing course, based at ABDO College, equips optical practice support staff with the skills they need to be effective, reflective practitioners in modern practice.

The Foundation Degree program equips optical practice support staff with the skills they need to be effective, reflective practitioners in modern practice, with opportunities to progress through life-long learning.

On successful completion of the FD Ophthalmic Dispensing, you can progress directly onto the BSc Hons. At this stage, you'll be offered the option of two routes to FBDO and guidance to make an informed choice based on your experience and marks at levels one and two.

The Foundation Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing will also articulate with related higher education study in optometry or orthoptics and for progression into the wider health and social care environment.

GCSE 4-9 (or equivalent) in 5 subjects, including English, Maths, and Science.

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
