Course Overview

This Chinese language program gives learners practical Mandarin skills and cultural exposure in an academic setting. Students work on speaking, listening, reading and writing through classroom sessions that reflect common language use and communicative practice. Most programs include language classes that fit current ability, from beginner to higher levels, with opportunities to interact with local students and participate in cultural activities.

Successful completion brings a certificate from Nantong University’s School of International Education, which can support future study plans in China or professional contexts where Mandarin competency is useful. The course also helps learners become familiar with Chinese campus life and social settings, aiding adjustment for those who go on to degree studies. Many participants use the six‑month training period to improve their language confidence enough to take HSK exams that qualify them for degree programs or employment pathways requiring language proficiency.

General Eligibility

• Age & Education: Normally applicants aged 18+ with secondary education completion.

• Application: Apply through NTU’s School of International Education with passport copy, photos, and completed forms.

• Visa: A student (X) visa is required for study longer than 6 months.

• Scholarships: NTU offers language program scholarships in some cases (e.g., reduced tuition for Chinese Language & Culture courses).

Language Requirement

• Chinese language programs usually do not require English proofs (no IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/Duolingo) for entry, although some basic English comprehension can help with orientation and instruction. HSK (Chinese proficiency) is not always required for entry into beginner levels, but higher levels may ask for HSK certificates.
