Ever thought €œI can design that better€? Design is a creative process, and Engineering Design allows you to be creative and use your imagination whilst following a methodology. This course aims to develop the skills, knowledge, and thought processes to enable you to design and refine mechanical and electromechanical products. Once youve grasped the principles and the method, coupled with your innovative ideas, there will be no stopping you. Examples of recent innovation from different sectors include: Retail €“ drone delivery Transport €“ the Maglev Sea transport €“ the Jet Reptile Construction €“ self-repairing concrete Innovation is also about improving what already exists and examples can be seen everywhere in the world around us from renewable brake systems to power transmission devices, such as couplings. From multi-link mechanisms used on JCBs, to bearings for carrying high loads, or multi-ratio gearboxes. As well as learning the theory, we use CAD and 3D CAD as the main design tool, we have a range of software tools for analysis and simulation, for instance, we use Solidworks which is used in industry, so when you enter the world of work, youll have experience using the software already.
