Course Overview

This course covers the history of Scotland, Europe, India, Africa, and North America, from medieval times to the present day. It draws on the activity of our research clusters in global history, Scottish history, and public history. You'll be able to study political, cultural, military, economic, and social history. You can explore different historical issues including social justice, and topics such as crime and police, or the historical study of crime fiction and forensics, which cross over with other academic departments. You will also gain specialist skills to enhance your employability. For example, we offer documentary making. As part of our public history theme, you'll have the opportunity to write a script for a historical documentary, or to film a short documentary. Other skills training includes public outreach, research ethics, research using databases, and the work of archivists. We have a substantial body of archival material and a team of archivists to work with.

General Eligibility

Students will normally be expected to have a 2:1 honours degree in History or a related discipline. Applicants with alternative qualifications and/or relevant experience may also be considered.
