... United Kingdom
... Teesside University

Course Overview

You focus on the latest thinking, methodology, and practices in ecology and conservation, guided by the teaching team’s research expertise. You gain a synthetical overview of the relevant societal, environmental, and climate change issues underpinning ecology and conservation. Develop knowledge of the latest nature-based solutions to address climate change and the biodiversity crisis, state-of-the-art molecular tools to identify invasive or endangered organisms, and critical analytical chemistry techniques for detecting and addressing environmental pollution.

The high-quality teaching is delivered by research-active staff alongside our professional partners in the ecology and conservation sector, ensuring the course content is topical, relevant and real-world.

You undertake educational field trips and assessments where you collect, analyse and interpret real-life data, identifying solutions to critical challenges. Working with the Industry Nature Conservation Association, you gain experience conserving harbour seals (Phoca vitulina) in the Tees estuary. This is just one example of how our research and collaborative relationships underpin our teaching.

You can choose a research project that aligns with and contributes to planned or ongoing activities in wider teams of researchers and collaborators. This exposes you to more realistic research practices, developing more impactful projects.
