General Eligibility

  • Entry to year one, HNC, is 1 Scottish Higher at grade C or above OR

  • One A Level at D or above

  • For alternative entry see access routes below

  • You will also be required to submit a portfolio of work and may be invited for an interview

What You'll Study

1 Year 1 - HNC

Mandatory units are:

  • Art and design context

  • Visual communication: an introduction

  • Visual communication: graded unit 1

  • Working in the field of visual communication

  • Digital imaging

  • Art and design project

Option units may include:

  • Graphic design 

  • Illustration 

  • Mixed media 

  • Developmental drawing 

  • Portfolio production

  • Photography: an introduction 

  • Personal development planning 

  • Art and design: creative process

2 Year 2 - HND

Mandatory units are:

  • Creative project for artists and designers

  • Digital imaging project

  • Design production

  • Working in Creative Industries 2 

  • Preparing for a role in the field of visual communication 

  • Visual communication: graded unit 2

Option units may include:

  • Client-initiated design project

  • Creative arts project: development and production

  • Mixed media portfolio

  • Photography: advertising

  • Work experience 

  • Photography: image editing 1 

  • New media project

3 Year 3 - BA

Core modules are:

  • Theory and practice: design

  • Research project: design

  • Professional design practice

  • Social design strategies

  • Design practice

4 Year 4 - BA (Hons)

Core modules are:

  • Major design project: degree show

  • Major research project

  • Professional design practice

Language Requirement

Applicants must have an IELTS score- 6.0 or equivalent

English (PTE) Academic-58 average with 51 in each component

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) iBT4-Min 80 or above with min 18 in each section
