Chemistry provides us with an important understanding of our world and how it works. Through understanding the chemistry of materials, we can design and manufacture drugs to fight diseases; computer chips to enhance communication; fuels for transportation; fertilizers to grow abundant food; plastics to package food and replace worn body parts; and much, much more. Chemistry also helps us to comprehend the nature of our environment, our universe, and ourselves. It is pivotal in our understanding of the treatment of diseases such as cancer and AIDS and provides vital information about issues such as global warming, ozone depletion, and acid rain. This course blends a theoretical knowledge of advanced concepts in organic synthesis and spectroscopic analysis with a focus on applying these skills in industry €“ so youll emerge with a broad range of skills and be equipped to succeed in roles within the chemicals sector and related industries, ranging from pharmaceuticals to microelectronics.
