Course Overview

Biomedical engineering is an inter-disciplinary and exciting subject that covers the science and engineering responsible for many of the latest advances in medicine. Our course encompasses the design and development of artificial medical implants such as hip joints, heart valves, and prosthetic limbs, as well as the development of medical technologies including surgical robots, diagnostic tools, and rehabilitation equipment. Becoming a biomedical engineer promises an exciting career, and our courses are designed to provide excellent training in all these areas.

General Eligibility

Accepted Qualifications

112 UCAS points from an equivalent Level 3 qualification listed on the

UCAS tariff calculator

, including:

  • A Level in at least two subjects, including Mathematics, Physics or Biology

  • BTEC Extended – DMM in a relevant topic. Must include distinctions in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics

  • BTEC Diploma – D*D* in a relevant topic. Must consist of differences in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics

  • Access to HE Diploma in a relevant subject

  • T Levels in a relevant subject

  • International Baccalaureate – 27 points, including a minimum of 15 points at a Higher Level, and must include Mathematics and Physics at Higher Level.

We also welcome applications from students taking Level 3 or higher qualifications not on the UCAS tariff calculator and will assess the suitability on a case-by-case basis.

In addition to one of the above, you should have the following:

  • GCSE English Grade 4/C or Level 2 Functional Skills in English

  • GCSE Mathematics Grade 4/C or Level 2 Functional Skills in Mathematics

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

    • IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in Writing and Speaking; 5.5 in Reading and Listening (or recognised equivalent).
