Course Overview

Be among the first to study at our new £16 million Brookfield campus, with state-of-the-art learning and facilities exclusive to Leicester School of Business students. Our BSc in Financial Economics and Banking will introduce you to various topics, including banking, financial intermediation, asset and liability management, financial decision making and financial markets and institutions. This wide range of issues will give you an in-depth understanding of how financial organisations and needs work. You will learn to apply economic theory in financial contexts, for example, the appraisal of competing for investment opportunities and how government policy influences the stock market and the banking sector. The course will familiarise you with derivatives pricing, risk management methods and portfolio management techniques. At the same time, you will also become a proficient user of financial software and complex data sources, enabling you better to understand the impact and reach of economic decisions.

General Eligibility

A/AS-levels: ABB. Two AS-levels are considered in place of one A-level. General Studies or Critical Thinking not included. Own language may be considered.

EPQ with A-levels: BBB + EPQ at grade B.

Access to HE Diploma: Pass relevant Diploma with 45 credits at Level 3, including 30 credits at Distinction.

GCSE: Grade B (5) in Mathematics and Grade C (4) in English Language

International Baccalaureate: Pass Full Diploma with 30 points, including a minimum of grade 5 in SL Maths Analysis and Approach or 6 in SL Maths Application and Interpretation or 4 in HL Maths Analysis and Approach if not held at GCSE.

BTEC Extended National Diploma: DDD in Business diploma with strong GCSE background, including Mathematics at grade B (5) and English Language at grade C (4).

T Levels: Distinction in Finance (plus 5 GCSEs at grade 5 including Maths and English)

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to prove your English ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.
