Computing has progressed so far in the last 20 years that the smartphone in your hand is more powerful than the world’s leading desktop computers once were. As technology and converging technology disrupt every global industry and become part of everyday life, join this digital revolution with a Computer Science degree.

Providing a broad understanding of the field of computing with a core specialism in programming, our course is designed so that you develop advanced knowledge of methodical approaches to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of object-oriented systems using the Java language.

Accredited by the BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, our course meets the highest industry standards and ensures that your learning delivers the knowledge and skills sought by employers. We will ensure you adopt a professional approach, making you aware of laws, regulations and competences needed to work with other IT professionals.

This professional experience pathway includes a 12-month industry placement between years two and three. This is a great opportunity to apply what you've learnt so far, and develop additional workplace skills to complement your academic studies.

You will:

  • Gain programming practice through design, implementation and testing, with appreciation of more sophisticated programming behaviour

  • Learn the principles of relational database management system, measuring their implementation and efficiency using emerging trends

  • Explore the theory and practice of website design, understanding human-computer interaction and designing and analysing user interfaces

  • Use real-time 3D graphics toolkits, and expand your Java knowledge to use C++ programming language

  • Build knowledge about AI techniques and terminology for knowledge representation and searching, and gain an understanding of data mining algorithms

  • Gain industry experience from a placement year taken between your second and third year

General Eligibility

GCSE

English and Maths at grade C/level 4 or above (or equivalent). You must fulfil our GCSE entry requirements as well as one of the requirements listed below.

UCAS tariff points

112 UCAS points, to include minimum grade C A-level in Computer Science (or related) or Computing BTEC or Access to HE course.

A level

112 UCAS points, to include at least grade C in A-level Computer Science (or related)

Part Time Work Details

20 Hours of Work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • The IELTS score for international applicants is 6 (with no less than 5.5 in each component).
