PG Certificate in International Teacher

... Belgium
... Thomas More - University of Applied Sciences

Course Overview

The Postgraduate Certificate in International Teacher was created to meet the growing need for educators skilled in cross-cultural classrooms. Launched as a specialized training path within the KU Leuven network, the course expanded from regional teacher training into an international qualification track. Key milestones include formal partnerships with European and international institutions, integration of AFS Global Competence certifications, and specific training for Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) environments. The program has trained educators who now serve in private, international, and bilingual schools across Europe and worldwide. Its structure balances theoretical coursework with direct teaching practice, reinforcing modern instructional competencies.

General Eligibility

  • Academic Credentials: Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in teaching (preschool, primary, or secondary education).

  • Application Documents: Submission of a CV, motivation letter detailing educational interests, and attendance at an online intake interview conducted in English.

  • Scholarships: Standard Belgian government study grants (Studietoelage) apply primarily to EEA residents. Postgraduate certificate programs generally do not offer direct institutional scholarships, requiring self-funding or external grants.

Part Time Work Details

Non-EEA students with a valid Belgian student visa (Type D) may work up to 20 hours per week during normal term periods, provided work does not interfere with studies. Full-time work is allowed during official academic holidays.

Language Requirement

  • Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Mandatory test cut-off scores include:

    • IELTS: Minimum overall band score of 6.5

    • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 85

    • PTE Academic: Minimum overall score of 46

    • Duolingo English Test (DET): Minimum score of 120

An exemption is granted if the applicant holds a Bachelor's or Master's degree taught entirely in English.
