Course Overview

Community childrens nursing is a rewarding and rapidly-evolving area that requires a unique set of skills and knowledge. By studying at the SPQ level, youll gain up-to-date skills and knowledge, and become highly skilled at caring for children in their own homes, and leading large teams of nurses to do so. This specialist course takes you through key aspects of current community childrens nursing practice, from mental health across the lifespan and safeguarding to effective caseload management. Developing strong leadership skills, you will also learn to take a more strategic view of the way childrens healthcare is delivered in the community, drawing on the latest research, ideas, and policy.

General Eligibility

The academic criteria for admission to this program are normally a diploma (120 credits at level 5) in nursing. However experienced nurses who have at least 60 credits at level 5 will be asked to provide evidence to the program team of their ability to study at level 6. This evidence will be a piece of written work related to their prior experience. The NMC professional requirements are for applicants to be entered on the appropriate part of the NMC Register. Applicants will be a level 1 nurse and have a qualification in child or adult nursing and have completed a period of experience of sufficient length to have consolidated pre-registration outcomes. This will be assessed at application and interview.
