Over the years, it evolved through various institutions, including the Nottingham and District Technical College (1945), Nottingham Regional College of Technology (1958), and Nottingham College of Education (1959). In 1970, these institutions merged to form Trent Polytechnic, which later became Nottingham Polytechnic in 1988. In 1992, following the Further and Higher Education Act, the institution was granted university status and officially became Nottingham Trent University.
