The name "New Caledonia" was chosen to honor the region explored by Simon Fraser. In its first year, CNC enrolled 253 students, and by 1971, it celebrated its inaugural convocation with 37 graduates. Over the decades, CNC expanded to include campuses in Quesnel, Mackenzie, Burns Lake, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, and Quesnel, serving a diverse student body of approximately 5,000 annually.
