Established in 1993 as the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT), the institution initially focused on delivering computer education to address regional IT skill demands. Through expanded academic programs and infrastructure investments, it achieved university college status in 2004 as UCTI, before officially obtaining full university status as Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU).
