This Master’s is for registered nurses (adult) wishing to become a midwife. It is a practice-based course, preparing you fully to care for women through pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period, conducting at least 40 supervised deliveries by the time you graduate as a professional midwife.
On this course, you spend half your time in University and half on placement. Theory and practice are woven together so you apply the knowledge you learn in the classroom to the clinical skills you are developing. You prepare for professional practice through roleplay, simulation and scenario-based learning as well as lectures, seminars and groupwork while also undertaking allocated clinical shifts at your placement, with the support of a midwife.
Successful completion of the course leads to the award of both a Master’s degree and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, allowing you to practise as a professional midwife.
Applicants should have a good undergraduate degree at the Honours level or equivalent.
To apply for a postgraduate degree (MA/MSc/MBA/LLM) at the University of Bedfordshire you should have a good honors degree (or equivalent qualification) in an appropriate subject from a recognized university or HE institution.
We will also consider candidates with other relevant qualifications or appropriate work experience.
20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
