BSc (Hons) Midwifery

The BSc (Hons) Midwifery program at Canterbury Christ Church University is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to become a registered midwife. The program covers a wide range of topics including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and clinical midwifery skills. Students will also gain experience in practical placements, working closely with midwives and other healthcare professionals in a variety of settings. Graduates of the program are eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and pursue a rewarding career in midwifery.

You will be taught to question and critically evaluate practice and, in doing so, place women and families at the center of care. You will be the lead professional and an expert in low-risk midwifery care. Providing care for women during one of the most significant periods in their life, as they become a family.

The course is equally divided between University and the practice setting. During your practice placements, you will be supported and assessed by midwives, who will guide your learning and development.

The course provides you with the knowledge and skills to be eligible to apply to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Following the successful completion of your studies there are lots of opportunities for you to develop your midwifery career. These include becoming a specialist midwife who cares for women with complex medical and social circumstances for example: diabetic specialist midwife, bereavement specialist midwife or supporting women with mental health concerns.

There are also opportunities to study further for a Master's or Ph.D., become a research midwife, or work abroad in cultures as diverse as Australia, Africa, or Europe.
