PGCE Primary and Early Years

The PGCE Primary and Early Years course at Bath Spa University is designed for aspiring teachers who want to specialize in primary and early years education. This intensive one-year program will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to become an outstanding teacher in these critical phases of children's development. Our course combines academic rigor with practical teaching experiences, giving you the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers and gain hands-on experience in the classroom. You will explore the latest research and best practices in primary and early years education, as well as develop your skills in assessment, planning, and delivery of lessons. Upon completion of the course, you will be qualified to teach across the whole primary age range (5-11) and have a specialism in either the Early Years (5-7) or Key Stage 1 (7-8).

We also offer flexible study options for those who cannot attend classes full-time. When you complete your Initial Teacher Training, you’ll be fully qualified to teach, with the essential knowledge, skills and confidence that you’ll need to be successful in the classroom.

Recognised Bachelor's degree or higher and evidence of two years of work experience; or successful completion of equivalent courses; or satisfactory preparation for the course through informal or non-formal learning and/or professional experiences subject to the approval of the Academic Chair
