In the past quarter century, no other branch of science has undergone the advancement in technological progress observed in cellular and molecular biology. We live in an age when the ability to sequence the genome of every new child entering the world is just beyond the horizon. This wealth of information will come with great responsibility and dramatically reshape and broaden our understanding of human health and disease. These advances have come with massive investment and increased workforce demands within both public and private biomedical sectors.
Broad in its application yet focused on clear training goals, the master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology provides students with the theory and skills to navigate the rapidly changing landscape of biomedical research. Students gain hands-on training in the laboratory skills most desired by today’s bioscience employers, and they can either complete a research thesis project under the guidance of a departmental faculty member or choose a non-thesis option that culminates in a capstone.
