BAE History — Elementary

This course provides an introduction to the history of the world, focusing on the social, political, and cultural developments from ancient times to the present. Students will learn about major events, trends, and figures that have shaped human history, as well as the impact of these events on contemporary society. The course will also cover key historical skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and source evaluation. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of the complexities of human history and the ways in which it continues to shape our world today.

This course is designed for elementary education majors and will provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach history in an engaging and meaningful way. Students will learn how to create interactive lesson plans, design multimedia presentations, and assess student learning. The course will also cover best practices for teaching history in the elementary classroom.

The History-Elementary major is designed for students who plan to become elementary school teachers. In their history courses, History-Elementary majors learn how to locate and access a wide range of sources, to analyze historical evidence, including textual and visual sources, to evaluate historical interpretations, and to develop and support their own interpretations. The quantity of writing and discussion required in history courses also helps students to develop effective communication skills.

This major satisfies the academic major requirement for teacher certification with an endorsement in elementary education and must be accompanied by the professional preparation program in elementary education. Academic Requirements for freshman students:

The admission requirements for undergraduate courses are given as follows:

• Completed application form

• Academic Transcripts(certified english translations if necessary)

• Relevant High school degree/Grade Report/Certificates

• SAT or ACT Scores (Optional)

• A cumulative GPA of 2.50

• Personal Statement or essay

• One letter of recommendation

• List of extracurricular activities(if any)

• Portfolio

Grade Requirements

A grade of C (2.0) or better is required for courses in the elementary education professional program and all courses required for the endorsement.

A minimum GPA in history courses of 2.50 is required for graduation. At least 15 of the credits must be in upper-division courses. No course with a grade of less than C (2.0) may be counted in this major.
