Course Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in English has a 120-credit structure combining English major courses, university core subjects and electives. Students complete four required English courses, courses covering early and later texts and contexts, and English major electives. The degree ends with a Senior Capstone Workshop.

Students can select courses based on their interests in literature, creative writing, rhetoric, professional writing and technology. Optional concentrations give students a clearer study path in Creative Writing, Research Intensive English, or Rhetoric, Writing and Technology. The program supports research, internships and community-based learning, giving students opportunities to use their writing and research skills outside regular classes.

The degree can support further study in areas such as law, education, medicine, business, literature and creative writing. Graduates can pursue work in publishing, media, marketing, communication, education, government and nonprofit organizations.
