Course Overview

The 1‑Year Chinese Language Program at CUMT has grown to support learners from basic levels up to intermediate or higher language ability. Students build skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through structured lessons, class projects, and language activities. Cultural experiences such as social practice and elective cultural classes enrich learning and help students use Mandarin in real‑life contexts. The program supports preparation for the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi), which is needed for many degree programs and professional pathways in China. Participation in local and university cultural events helps international students connect with peers from diverse backgrounds and practice language outside the classroom. Graduates often enter degree programs in China or return home with stronger Mandarin skills and deeper understanding of Chinese culture. The program’s development reflects CUMT’s support for international education, language training, and cross‑cultural engagement.

General Eligibility

Applicants must be non‑Chinese citizens holding a valid passport, in good health, and generally have completed secondary school or higher. Required documents typically include passport copy, recent photo, academic certificates, and health documents. CUMT’s International College manages admissions for language learners and provides application guidance. Some scholarship options may be available to support Chinese language study, especially for students planning to continue into degree programs after completing the language course.

International students may work part‑time with university/local approval; weekly hours limited during academic terms

Language Requirement

• The Chinese Language Program is delivered in Mandarin and does not require a specific English score for admission. For reference in other CUMT international admissions (degree programs):

  • TOEFL iBT: 80

  • PTE Academic: 50

  • Duolingo English Test: 95
