International Foundation Programme

The International Foundation Programme at Canterbury Christ Church University is designed for international students who wish to study at undergraduate level but do not meet the entry requirements of their chosen degree programme. This programme provides a pathway to university study, focusing on developing English language and academic skills. Students will learn from experienced teachers and academics, engage in interactive learning activities, and benefit from small class sizes. Upon successful completion of the programme, students can progress to undergraduate studies at Canterbury Christ Church University or other UK universities.

The International Foundation Programme is a full-time course that runs for 8 months. Students will take modules in English language and academic skills, as well as subject-specific modules related to their chosen degree programme. The programme also includes cultural and social activities to help students settle into life in the UK. Upon completion of the programme, students will receive a certificate of completion from Canterbury Christ Church University.

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is designed to help you improve your English language skills up to the level that you can enter an undergraduate degree at Canterbury Christ Church University.

It is not just a simple language improvement course: you will need to learn the kinds of language and skills which are necessary for university study, and in your subject area. You may also need to revise and expand the basic knowledge you need to study your subject in English.

The best way to do this is by studying in a university, in English, and by beginning to study the kinds of subjects, experiencing the kinds of teaching, and doing the types of assessments that you will meet when you start your degree.

Normal entry requirements for students who wish to join the stand-alone IFP primarily to improve their academic English—after successful completion of the IFP, you can progress to a 3-year degree program of your choice, so long as you have met any additional requirements.
