The MA by Research is a one-year full-time course of postgraduate study. Students taking this degree work on a specific project with expert supervision from a member of the Huddersfield History team. This project is written up as a dissertation of 25,000 words and submitted at the end of the year. Please see below for the MA by Research topics offered for supervision by Huddersfield historians. MA by Research students also takes part in a Graduate Seminar which provides a structured environment for postgraduate study as well as an opportunity for research students to get to know each other, and share ideas and findings. The Graduate Seminar aims to explore various ways of approaching and categorizing research; for example, organizing concepts like gender, class, and identity; and investigates sources and approaches like material culture, oral history, and memory. It also covers the practical skills required for effective research. To support the regular seminar there are additional specialist sessions delivered by experts who work on specific temporal areas and who use particular methodologies.
The normal entry requirements for enrolment on a MA by Research is an Honours degree (2:1 or above) or an equivalent professional qualification.
20 Hours of Work permit weekly for international students.
The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall with no element lower than 6.0, or equivalent.
