The BA (Hons) History degree with a foundation year at Bangor University is an excellent choice for students who are passionate about the study of history. Our History (with Foundation Year) option is a four-year course with an integrated foundation year which leads to the same qualification as our three-year honors degree. It has been specifically designed for those wanting to undertake degree-level study but who may not meet the entry requirements or have traditional qualifications.
The Foundation Year (Year 0) offers you the chance to expand and strengthen your confidence, skills, and knowledge – ensuring that you are well-prepared and qualified to progress into Year 1 of the undergraduate degree.
HSC (4.5 GPA or above) will be considered for direct admission to Bachelor's degree courses.
HSC Student (below 4.5 GPA) – plus 1-year Foundation Programme or must obtain a two-year Bachelor's Degree (Pass).
The 20 hours is total hours. It is not per job. If you hold multiple part-time jobs then the total hours of all the work you are doing added together.
Course Content
On this History (with Foundation Year) degree, you will have around 12 hours of lectures, seminars, and tutorials each week. You will spend about twice this amount of time reading and completing coursework. In addition to this will be field trips and practical sessions linked to archaeology and heritage modules. Some history modules, especially special subject courses, have involved trips both locally and further afield. You may take a work placement module or participate in an exchange scheme in the second year.
Assessment involves a mixture of examinations, essays, written work, presentations, and portfolios.

If you do not meet the English Language requirements to enter the International Incorporated Bachelors or the International Incorporated Masters, BUIC offers you a range of Pre-sessional English Programmes which you can take before you start these courses.
If you have an IELTS of 5.0 (with no component below 4.5), you will be offered a 6-week Pre-sessional English course immediately preceding your entry to the IYZ.
If you have an IELTS of 4.5 (with no component below 4.0), you will be offered a 12-week Pre-Sessional English course immediately preceding your entry to the IYZ.
