Course Overview

Our Broadcast Journalism degree will prepare you for an exciting career in TV news, radio, podcasting, social media or all of those! These exciting industries, along with society and technology, are constantly changing, and we will give you the best possible grounding to succeed in the future. You'll build your creative and technical skills in video and audio journalism and make the most of online and social tools. Meanwhile, analyzing the media and how we use it today will help you understand what is happening in 21st-century journalism.

General Eligibility

BBC-BCCat A Level.

112-104UCAS tariff points from a combination of Level 3 qualifications.

Meritat T Level.

DMM-MMMin BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma.

Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits at Merit or above.

112-104 UCAS tariff points from International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Part Time Work Details

Twenty hours of work permit weekly for international students.

What You'll Study

1 Year 1

Compulsory modules:

  • Analysing Content

  • Media Users, Audiences and Fans

  • News Industries and Law

  • Digital Communication Technology

  • Digital Video and Audio Production

  • Media Writing and Narrative

2 Year 2

Compulsory modules:

  • Researching Digital Communication, Media and Culture

  • From Studio to Social Media: Media Careers and Entrepreneurship

  • Television Journalism

  • Digital Radio and Audio Production

3 Year 3 – optional placement year

Placement Year

4 Year 4

Compulsory modules:

  • Research Dissertation

  • The Multi-Platform Newsroom

  • Media Industry Project

Students who have successfully completed the optional placement year take an additional optional module in place of the Media Industry Project.

Option modules:

Choose up to three from a list which may include:

  • Journalism Innovation and Enterprise

  • Political Reporting

  • Investigative Journalism

  • Media and Globalisation

  • Digital Streaming Platforms: YouTube, Netflix and Beyond

  • Video Shorts: Music, Advertising and Short film

Language Requirement

The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall, with no element lower than 5.5 or equivalent.
