Our expert tutors will introduce you to the very latest academic debates in literary studies, and encourage you to examine the role of literature in the wider world. By tailoring the course to your own research needs and interests you can pursue any literary genre you can imagine, whether it's Arthurian literature or American crime fiction, Scottish Gothic, or Irish drama. You can choose from a wide range of modules in Scottish and Irish literature, Medieval and Renaissance literature, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature, and modern and contemporary literature. Our 'Special Author' optional module allows you to explore in-depth the works of your chosen author whether it's Shakespeare or Zadie Smith.
Students will normally be expected to have a 2:1 honors degree in English or a related discipline. Applicants with alternative qualifications and/or relevant experience may also be considered. Students should provide, along with their postgraduate application, copies of their degree transcript and, if applicable, a copy of their degree award certificate, two reference letters, and written work in a subject relevant to literary study.
