BA (Hons) International Development (Including Foundation Year)

During our four-year BA International Development (including the foundation year), we work with you to help improve your language skills, develop your subject-specific knowledge, and to improve your academic skills. You receive a thorough grounding in these areas during your foundation year (known as Year Zero) to prepare you for a further three years of undergraduate study at Essex.

You are an Essex student from day one, a member of our global community-based at the most internationally diverse campus university in the UK.

What will the world look like by 2025? How can we make the world economy more resilient? What role do NGOs play in the developing world? How can conflict be prevented? Explore the economic, social, and political processes of change in the developing world.

Based in the UK’s top politics department for research excellence (REF 2014), International Development at Essex doesn’t just look at what but it questions why. We train our students to be fearless and independent, to question everything, and to draw on the broadest possible range of facts and ideas; encouraging them to develop their critical analysis skills and research abilities. You examine everything from poverty and inequality to authoritarian regimes and causes of conflict. This interdisciplinary approach allows you to develop a wide understanding of the key issues facing the world today.

UK entry requirements

• A-levels: ABB

• BTEC: DDD, depending on the subject studied - advice on acceptability can be provided.

• IB: 32 points or three Higher Level certificates with 655

• We are also happy to consider a combination of separate IB Diploma Programmes at both Higher and Standard Levels. Exact offer levels will vary depending on the range of subjects being taken at higher and standard levels, and the course applied for. • Access to HE Diploma:15 Level 3 credits at Distinction and 30 level 3 credits at Merit, depending on the subject studied - advice on acceptability can be provided.

• We also consider T-levels.
