This innovative degree course combines the study of modern languages with the interdisciplinary field of criminology and criminal justice. Students will gain a deep understanding of the social, cultural, and political factors that shape crime and criminal justice systems, as well as the skills to communicate effectively in two or more modern languages. The course is ideal for those interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement, government, or international organizations.
Students on this course will have access to state-of-the-art language learning resources and opportunities to engage with real-world criminology and criminal justice issues through practical exercises and case studies. The course is also flexible enough to allow students to pursue specialisms in areas such as forensic linguistics, cybercrime, or human rights.

The degree allows you to combine a Modern Language (Chinese, French, German, Italian or Spanish, from beginners or advanced level) and Criminology & Criminal Justice. You will develop written and oral skills and will learn about cultural aspects. This course will also impart strong knowledge in theories and evidence relating to crime, criminals and victims, and examine the way in which the criminal justice system works.
All language modules include written skills (e.g. translation and essay writing) and oral skills taught by a native speaker.
The optional modules available in modern languages allow you to gain insight into the cinema, literature, history, and culture of the country whose language you are studying. Your Criminology and Criminal Justice modules will focus on a range of social and political issues that sit well alongside the types of subjects you will learn about within modern languages.
There are also extra-curricular activities that will both boost your subject knowledge and allow you to get to know your fellow students.

The 20 hours is total hours. It is not per job. If you hold multiple part-time jobs then the total hours of all the work you are doing added together.
For the Modern Languages element, you will have 3-4 hours of language classes per week plus classes in your Modern Languages optional modules. Tuition is mainly in small groups and there are few formal lectures. Assessment involves coursework and written and oral examinationsYour classes for Criminology and Criminal Justice will involve a mixture of lectures and seminars, and the assessment will involve a variety of assessment methods, including written assignments, essays, and examinations.You will also complete a dissertation as part of your degree, and you will normally have approximately 10-12 hours of classes per week.

If you do not meet the English Language requirements to enter the International Incorporated Bachelors or the International Incorporated Masters, BUIC offers you a range of Pre-sessional English Programmes which you can take before you start these courses.
If you have an IELTS of 5.0 (with no component below 4.5), you will be offered a 6-week Pre-sessional English course immediately preceding your entry to the IYZ.
If you have an IELTS of 4.5 (with no component below 4.0), you will be offered a 12-week Pre-Sessional English course immediately preceding your entry to the IYZ.
