Independent/Supplementary Prescribing (V300) Level 7

This course is designed for healthcare professionals who wish to develop their skills in independent and supplementary prescribing. The course covers the principles of prescribing, pharmacology, and clinical assessment, as well as legal and ethical frameworks. Students will learn how to assess patients, diagnose medical conditions, and prescribe appropriate medications. This course is ideal for nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals who want to enhance their prescribing skills.

Additional Information

The course is delivered over 10 weeks, with a mix of online and face-to-face sessions. Students will also be expected to complete a practice assessment and a final exam to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Graduates of the course will be eligible to apply for prescribing rights through the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Candidates should:

• Be a nurse (level 1) or midwife registered with the NMC or a:

  • physiotherapist

  • podiatrist

  • paramedic

  • therapeutic radiographer

  • dietician

  • diagnostic radiographer

(all registered with the HCPC)

• Possess 2:2 or equivalent BSc (Hons) degree

• Have been on a relevant HCP /NMC Professional Register for a minimum of one year

• Be competent in: patient assessment, diagnostics, planning and evaluation of care. 

20 Hours of Work permit weekly for international students.
