MA/PgD/PgC in Sport, Ethics and Society Masters

This course explores the ethical dimensions of sport and physical activity, examining the impact of sports on society and the ways in which sport can be used to promote social justice and equality. Students will engage with a range of theoretical perspectives and real-world case studies to develop a deep understanding of the complex issues surrounding sport and ethics. The course is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in sports management, sports administration, or related fields, as well as those wishing to advance their knowledge of sport and society.

Sports sociologists and ethicists are sought after in a range of sport-related occupations: national governing bodies, community sports development programmes, management of sport/leisure facilities in the private sector, sports administration roles and sports media.

Further, this programme is ideal for those with aspirations of a research career or continued study at PhD level and fosters a range of transferable skills. Indeed, many of our students go on to study a PhD research programme before (and while) working inside academia as lecturers, tutors and researchers.

Applicants should generally have one of the following:

An honours degree (2.1 or above ) in a sport or leisure-related area appropriate to the pathway.

Candidates with exceptional and extensive work experience in education, coaching, leisure management or recreation will also be considered for entry to the pathway.

An honours degree (2.1 or above) in an alternative discipline area that is acceptable to the programme leader.

Selection Procedure:

Students are generally selected based on their formal application, a CV and an informal interview with the programme director.

20 hours of work permits weekly for international students.
