Museums shape knowledge in the present and act as a resource for the future. By studying how museums function and how objects are displayed to reveal meaning, this course offers both sector-relevant knowledge and transferrable communication skills suitable for working in an exciting and increasingly complex subject area. Why study this course with us? Studying Museums Practice you will access a range of resources, including museum and historic house collections across Shrewsbury, Shropshire, and the Welsh Marches. Links with heritage organizations and collections include independent, specialist, and civic museums, English Heritage, and the National Trust. Throughout Museums Practice, we develop knowledge and skills suited to operate within the broader heritage industry and institutional contexts, whether they be museums, heritage and planning agencies, local authorities, international organizations, private enterprises, or civic organizations. This course blends theory and practice, specialist lecturers, contributions from practicing museums and heritage professionals, opportunities for field research to gain €˜hands-on experience, and research projects with real-life outputs.
A 2:1 honors degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent qualification is required. Prior experience in the museum and heritage sectors can be taken into account alongside academic qualifications. Consideration will be given to those who hold a lower classification who can demonstrate they are capable of performing at the level required to complete the course successfully.
