BA (Hons) Film Studies and Screenwriting

... United Kingdom
... University of Worcester

Course Overview

These subjects share an interest in the medium of film and in some of the processes involved in constructing narratives and telling stories. They provide you with exciting opportunities to combine very different types of learning: in tandem with academic study and writing, you will be involved in developing your own creative practice as a writer. If you are looking for a degree that combines creative work and academic inquiry - and if telling stories and thinking about and writing for film and performance are where your interests lie - then this Joint Honours program may be your perfect choice. Film Studies at Worcester introduces you to a wide range of film genres and gives you the ability to understand how we interact, represent our ideas, and tell our stories through a visual medium.

Film Studies develop student skills in practice-as-research and research-as-practice for a number of culture and media industries including exhibition, distribution, audience-based marketing, journalism, film education, curating, programming, filmmaking, screenwriting, and further academic research.

The opportunity to be introduced to current industry contacts in Screenwriting is an essential element of the progression of your work across the three years, giving you a unique insight into how your skills can transfer into employment within the media industry. There are many career path options including working in the digital arts industries, in film and television and arts organizations and taking up university and school teaching or postgraduate academic and creative writing courses.
