International Year One in Law

The International Year One in Law is designed for students who want to pursue a career in law but may not have the necessary qualifications or experience. This course provides a foundation in legal knowledge and skills, giving students the opportunity to progress to the second year of an undergraduate law degree at Cardiff University. The program covers core legal topics such as contract law, tort law, criminal law and procedure, and constitutional law. Students will also develop their critical thinking, research, and writing skills, which are essential for success in law. By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of law and be well-prepared to continue their studies at Cardiff University.

Additional Information

The International Year One in Law is a one-year program that consists of 30 credits of compulsory modules and 15 credits of elective modules. Students will have access to a range of resources, including the university's library, legal clinics, and student societies. The program also offers opportunities for students to gain practical experience through moots, mock trials, and pro bono work. Upon successful completion of the course, students can progress to the second year of an undergraduate law degree at Cardiff University.

Joining us on campus

You can start your studies with a UKVI-approved Secure English Language Test (SELT), provided you have met all the programme entry requirements. 

The test results must have been achieved in the past 24 months and meet the minimum English equivalency score for your chosen programme.

Starting your studies virtually from home and coming to campus at a later date.

You can start your studies virtually with a UKVI-approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) as above or you can provide proof of your English language proficiency with an alternative test. This is possible because you do not need a Student Visa to start virtually from your home country.

You will need to obtain a SELT with the required minimum score to make a Student Visa application in order to come to campus.

The test results must have been achieved in the past 24 months and meet the minimum English equivalency score for your chosen programme
