BSc (Hons) Product Design

BSc (Hons) Product Design at Bournemouth University is a unique and exciting course that enables students to develop the skills and knowledge required to design and innovate products that meet the needs of society. Students will learn about the entire product design process, from conceptualization to prototype development, and will gain an understanding of the technical, social, and environmental factors that influence product design. The course also covers topics such as user experience, human-computer interaction, and sustainable design, giving students a comprehensive understanding of the field. Students have the opportunity to take part in design competitions, attend guest lectures from industry experts, and visit exhibitions and trade fairs. The course also includes an industrial placement year, providing students with valuable practical experience and the chance to apply their skills in a real-world setting.

• Learn how to manufacture physical models and prototypes, as well as produce industry-standard computer models

• Use state-of-the-art facilities, including a specialist CAD laboratory and our Innovation Centre.

• Spend your third year on a work placement, gaining at least 30 weeks of experience in a relevant industry

• Design your original product and make a working prototype in your final year and exhibit it at our annual Festival of Design & Engineering

• Choose to extend your undergraduate study and continue to the award of Master of Design (MDes) Product Design.

• Graduate with a range of skills allowing you to go into a range of careers in the industry from a designer to production manager - 95% of our graduates are in employment or further education after 15 months. 

This course requires 104–120 UCAS tariff points, including a minimum of 2 A-levels or equivalent. We are happy to consider a combination of qualifications and grades to meet the overall tariff, for example, A-levels A*CC, ABC, BBB or BCC, BTECs DDM, or DMM.
