PGDE Secondary Education: History

As a history teacher, you’ll bring the past to life and teach your pupils how historical events can be interpreted in various ways, sparking passionate debate and developing a range of skills. Full support will be given throughout the course by an experienced history specialist to enhance your classroom practice. The system prepares you for a successful teaching career regardless of your chosen destination. 

Degree requirements

A second-class honours degree or international equivalent.

Degree must include:

• 120 SCQF credits in history. 80 of these SCQF credits should come from at least one of the following subjects:

  • British history

  • Scottish history

  • European history

  • World History

• A maximum of 40 SCQF credits from ancient history is acceptable.

Maths & English

• Higher (SCQF Level 6) English Grade C or above

• National 5 (SCQF Level 5) Mathematics Grade C or above

Maths and English qualifications must be in place at the time of application.
