Physiology studies the functions and mechanisms within living systems from the subcellular level up to the whole animal. In disease, pathophysiological mechanisms interfere with the regular operation of these systems. Pharmacology is the science of drugs, leading to an understanding of their design, targets, therapeutic uses, side effects and toxicology. You will learn how drugs interact with cells and tissues to control the disease. This is a rapidly developing field with wide-ranging applications, particularly for medical science, where studying the disease requires a good understanding of the underlying physiology and the relevant pharmacology. Over the programme, in addition to subject-specific knowledge, you will gain essential transferable skills that will make you an attractive prospect for future employers.
