BA (Hons) English Literature with Foundation Year

This course is designed for students who want to pursue a career in English literature, but may not have the required qualifications or grades for direct entry into an undergraduate degree. The foundation year provides a supportive and structured environment for students to develop their academic skills and knowledge of English literature, before progressing onto the full BA (Hons) English Literature degree. Students will study a range of modules that explore different aspects of English literature, including poetry, drama, and fiction. They will also have the opportunity to specialise in particular areas of interest, such as creative writing or critical theory. Upon successful completion of the foundation year, students will progress onto the full BA (Hons) English Literature degree, where they will continue their studies with a focus on more advanced topics and independent research.

You have an opportunity to apply your degree skills on placement at Level 5 and to recognize that the transferable skills that an English Literature degree provides are valuable and highly desirable in a wide range of occupations. This flexibility enables English Literature graduates to choose from and build a resilient career in many different employment sectors and occupations. Careers include media, publishing, advertising, PR, human resources, journalism, social work, teaching, and management roles in both the private and public sectors. There are also lots of opportunities for further academic study, and many of our students go on to pursue postgraduate work in English Literature and other related fields.
