General Eligibility

1 Scottish Higher at grade C or above (preferably in a numeracy-based subject) OR
1 A level at grade D or above (preferably in a numeracy-based subject)
Alternatively, NC Business (with 70% Accounting units) or NC Accounting OR
Foundation Apprenticeship in Accountancy, Business Skills, or Financial Services
Prospective students without the standard entry requirements listed above are encouraged to apply

Advanced entry:

Advanced entry to year two is the HNC Accounting
Advanced entry to year three is the HND Accounting

What You'll Study

1 Year 1

Year 1 of the course is HNC Accounting

Mandatory units are:

Cost accounting
Graded unit 1: accounting
Management accounting using IT
Preparing financial statements
Recording financial information
Using financial accounting software

2 Year 2

Year 2 of the course is HND Accounting

Business Taxation
Financial reporting and analysis
Graded unit 2: accounting
Graded unit 3: accounting
Management accounting for decision-making
Management accounting for planning and control

Optional units may include:

Behavioural skills for business
Corporate information systems
Economics 1: micro and macro theory and application
Economics 2: the world economy
Income tax
IT in Business: advanced spreadsheets
Office management
Statistics for business
Workplace experience (students are responsible for finding their work placement)*

3 Year 3

Core modules are:

Advanced financial reporting
Auditing and professional ethics
Financial management

You will choose two option modules which may include:

4 Year 4

You will complete a dissertation, or research and plan a new business venture, as well as study the following modules:

Corporate financial decision-making
International financial reporting

You will choose further option modules which may include:

Corporate responsibility in the global environment
Social and environmental accounting
Work placement*
