Course Overview

As medical care becomes more reliant on technology—and more complex—hospitals and clinics need medical coding professionals who can create and maintain accurate electronic health records that follow guidelines for protecting patient privacy. In as little as 20 months, you can earn your medical coding degree online and be well-prepared to pursue career opportunities in this growing field.

Through Herzing's medical coding associate degree program, you will:

• Gain coding skills for both inpatient (hospital) and outpatient care contexts

• Prepare for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) examination from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

• Be eligible to pursue the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) qualification upon graduation and after one year of work experience instead of the usual two.

General Eligibility

Enrollment requirements for the Herzing University Medical Coding degree program include the following:

1. Hold a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent

2. Achieve the minimum score on one of several options for entrance testing, including the Wonderlic, ACT, or SAT

3. Meet with a Herzing admissions advisor

4. Fill out an enrollment application
