Course Overview

As a game artist, you’ll be joining one of the fastest-growing sectors of the games industry, where skills are in higher demand than ever before.  

With this Game Arts degree, you’ll work in multi-skilled collaborative teams and graduate as a confident, industry-ready game artist. You’ll study fundamental game art principles alongside traditional art practice, building your expertise to contribute to a major game development project in your second and third year to help you graduate with an industry-ready portfolio.

You will:

  • Develop skills in concept art, character art and environment art while gaining fundamental industry skills in 3D modelling, UV mapping, baking, composition and shading 

  • Work in one of the largest and best-equipped dedicated game-making spaces of any university in the UK 

  • Study in a studio environment with access to industry-standard hardware and software 

  • Master a range of industry-standard tools used to produce game art, including ZBrush, Maya, Substance Painter and Marmoset 

  • Work in multidisciplinary teams where you keep the Intellectual Property (IP) of any games you produce 

  • Network with industry through our Guest Speaker programme and end-of-year Games Expo

General Eligibility

We consider all applications on their merit and potential. We invite all applicants to an interview day or audition to allow them to demonstrate this, along with what inspires and motivates them in their field. Applicants can also show their portfolio or perform, depending on the course. We welcome applications from all subject backgrounds, whether you’ve specialised in STEM, the arts or the humanities.

BA/BSc(Hons) three-year degree 104 – 120 UCAS Tariff points

BA/BSc(Hons) four year degree

with placement year 104 – 120 UCAS Tariff points

BA/BSc(Hons) four year degree
with Integrated Foundation Year 80 – 120 UCAS Tariff points

UCAS Tariff points will primarily be from Level 3 qualifications such as but not limited to A-levels, T Levels, a BTEC/UAL Extended Diploma or a Foundation Diploma.

Part Time Work Details

Twenty hours of work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • For applicants whose first language is English, we require you to have or be working towards GCSE English Language Grade 4 (C) or equivalent. 

    If English is not your first language, you must meet the same standard, equivalent to the IELTS Academic 6.0 overall score, with at least 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. We accept a range of in-country equivalencies and approved tests.
