Course Overview
The Mechanical Engineering B.S. combines mathematics and science with practical engineering work. Students build their knowledge through engineering fundamentals, programming, electrical and computer engineering, mechanics, thermodynamics, fluids, materials, manufacturing and design. The major includes 103 credits, supported by the University Undergraduate Core.
Students gain experience through laboratory classes, design projects, research and internship opportunities. The program includes two senior design courses focused on mechanical and thermal systems. Students may take approved internships as technical electives and can take part in funded undergraduate research when eligible.
The degree is accredited by ABET's Engineering Accreditation Commission, giving the program recognized U.S. engineering accreditation. Graduates can pursue roles in mechanical design, product development, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, energy, biomedical engineering, government, research and consultancy.
General Eligibility
First-Year Applicants
Applicants must:
- Graduate from an accredited high school, or hold an acceptable GED or HiSET qualification.
- Submit the required academic records.
- Meet Saint Louis University's undergraduate admission requirements.
- Demonstrate English proficiency when required.
- Provide English translations of academic records for international applications.
- Provide an official course-by-course transcript evaluation when required.
Transfer Applicants
Students transferring to SLU-Madrid must have completed high school or hold an acceptable GED or HiSET qualification. Applicants with fewer than 24 semester credits follow the freshman admission requirements. Applicants with 24 or more semester credits must submit transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities.
Application Process
Students can apply through the SLU-Madrid application or Common Application. Current published deadlines include:
- Fall: April 1 for applicants who require a Spanish student visa
- Fall: July 1 for EU passport holders
- Spring: August 1 for applicants who require a Spanish student visa
- Spring: November 1 for EU passport holders
- Summer: March 1 for applicants requiring a student visa
- Summer: April 1 for applicants who do not require a student visa

Students should check their Spanish student residence and work conditions with the relevant Spanish authorities before taking employment
