Course Overview

The University of Hull is situated in an area with a vibrant and growing industry, hosting significant players in the aerospace, chemical, engineering design, pharmaceutical, transport, marine and energy industries.

This makes the city the ideal location to study mechanical engineering - the most significant engineering discipline which offers career progression into most industry sectors.

Our Mechanical Engineering MSc has employability at its heart and allows you to develop an in-depth knowledge, comprehension and understanding of theoretical and practical applications of mechanical engineering, including a critical awareness of current issues and developments. A strong emphasis is placed on the practical application of knowledge. The University has strong, direct links with industry, providing you with opportunities to work on real-world engineering projects and enhance your career prospects. This programme has been developed to provide a top-up for graduates who have completed a BEng in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject.

Accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), this programme meets, in part, the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Accredited MSc graduates with an accredited BEng (Hons) will be able to show they have satisfied the educational base for CEng registration.

General Eligibility

Applicants should have an Honours degree (typically 2.2 or above, or international equivalent) in an engineering or related discipline.

To ensure our students have a rich learning and student experience, most of our programmes have a mix of domestic and international students. We reserve the right to close applications early to either group if application volumes suggest this blend cannot be achieved. In addition, existing undergraduate students at the University of Hull have a guaranteed ‘Fast Track’ route to any postgraduate programme, subject to meeting the entry criteria (excluding Social Work).
