BA (Hons) Product Design with Foundation Year

This course is designed for students who are passionate about designing and creating innovative products. You will learn the skills and knowledge needed to become a successful product designer, including user research, design thinking, prototyping, and testing. The foundation year provides a solid base in art, design, and engineering principles, before moving on to specialize in product design. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to create functional, desirable, and sustainable products that meet the needs of users and society.

Embrace the technical side of design. Youll use a range of industry-standard 3D CAD and CAD/CAM systems, and some fantastic workshop facilities to produce 3D models, fully working prototypes, computer models, and animations to demonstrate your design solutions. Youll explore different solutions for a number of areas, working with real clients as you use your expertise to create products with a purpose. With your skills as a product designer, youll be able to adapt to many different areas. We look at special effects, medical equipment design, games environment design, technical illustration, model making, and architectural visualization. Part of the role involves working closely with clients as you examine exactly what they want as an end product. With experience, youll have the vision and integrity to respond to the needs of society. Product designers like Apples Jonathan Ive created iconic devices through their understanding of technology, production methods, and market needs.

Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements for the 3-year undergraduate program, or those who do not feel fully prepared for a Level 4 course, will be considered for the 4-year program including a Foundation Year.
