The BSc Criminology and Criminal Justice is a research-led program taught by internationally recognized academics whose research contributes to, and challenges, traditional crime, and criminal justice studies. Led by principles of social and racial justice, the program will focus your attention on contemporary social problems, from prison abolition, migration and deportation, and social welfare, to gendered violence, terrorism, and drugs. You will learn about real-world events by examining national and international criminal justice policies, institutions, and practices. You will also think about the people who make, and those who are subjected to, these systems and processes. Our topics are theoretically informed, drawing on political economy, feminism, critical race, and queer theory. The program provides you with a solid grounding in key criminology topics, methods, and theories. Themes range from punishment, policing, security, and surveillance to organized, corporate, and state crime. You will have access to a wide range of module options as you progress through the program, including courses in the Department of Law.
Graduates can pursue career paths in criminal justice, public safety, or social welfare. Possible professions include:
community development worker
prison or probation officer
social worker
adult guidance worker.
