Course Overview

Our course is built on the core principles of economics, which are applied to your study of financial institutions (such as banks), financial markets (such as the stock exchange), and financial instruments. You receive a thorough introduction to economics and mathematics, as well as training in quantitative research methods.

The world of finance has an impact on people, businesses, and government. Studying financial economics provides you with a foundation in economics, developing a deep understanding of how the financial system works and the ways in which it affects our lives. By studying our course, you graduate with strong training in financial economics.

General Eligibility

UK entry requirements

GCSE: Mathematics B/5

A-levels: ABB

BTEC: DDD

IB: 32 points or three Higher Level certificates with 655. Either must include Standard Level Mathematics grade 5, or a minimum of 3 in Higher Level Mathematics. We will accept grade 5 in either Standard Level Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Standard Level Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation.

We are also happy to consider a combination of separate IB Diploma Programmes at both Higher and Standard Levels. Please note that Maths in the IB is not required if you have already achieved GCSE Maths at grade B/5 or above or 5 in IB Middle Years Maths.

Exact offer levels will vary depending on the range of subjects being taken at higher and standard levels, and the course applied for. Please contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office for more information.

Access to HE Diploma: 15 Level 3 credits at Distinction and 30 level 3 credits at Merit, depending on the subject studied - advice on acceptability can be provided.

Part Time Work Details

20 hours per week.

Language Requirement

  • If you do not require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK then we will assess your English language proficiency/ability at your interview or audition.

    If your first language is not English and you are an international student that requires a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK then you will need IELTS 6.0 overall, with 5.5 in each component.
